OUR STORY

From Refugees to a Thriving Community

The Vancouver Estonian Society has grown immensely since its inception, building a supportive community and preserving cultural roots.

Founding Years: 1948-1955

The Vancouver Estonian Society was founded in 1948 (incorporated in 1955) and is a not-for-profit member funded society. Established by Estonian refugees seeking to maintain their cultural identity amid challenges, subgroups and activities were established, building a vibrant community around shared traditions and values.

Modern-Day Celebrations

Rooted in traditions and respect, we continue to celebrate Estonian Independence Day, Jaanipäev Midsummer celebration at Mäeotsa, and more special events fostering unity among members.

Looking to the Future

As we move forward, our mission remains focused on preserving and celebrating our rich Estonian heritage and community in Vancouver.
